Le Mans 2022 Ayse's Story

Page 6 - Monday 6th June - A Breakfast Discovery on a Quiet Day

A short page, this one.  We always knew that Monday would be an extra day of rest, having had two days of scrutineering and a day largely spent on our feet at the Auberge.  So there was no great rush to do anything at all.  Last year, James and Tony discovered a patisserie/restaurant out on the route to Arnage and we decided to go and have breakfast there.  For me (and later for James and Lauren) it proved to be one of the discoveries of the week.  A spendid boulangerie/patisserie with all of those wonderful cakes and pastries for which the French are unrivalled.  This was the Feuillette boulangerie/patisserie at Arnage, one of a chain of numerous establishments throughout France.  Having fallen out of love with the Bar Havane at St Saternin since it changed hands a few years ago, the Feuillette looked certain to replace it more than admirably, despite the fact that it was a bit more of a drive to get there.

After a very enjoyable breakfast we returned to the hotel, contemplating what we should do with the day.  Unfortunately by mid-morning, James was feeling unwell.  By agreement, I'm not going into any detail either here or during the rest of the story regarding his ailment, but it was to cast a shadow over his trip and by association, over everyone else's as well.

The day was spent by me catching up with my photos from the previous three days, re-establishing contact with Ray Toombs* and discussing the arrival of James and Lauren tomorrow.  Tony, Tim and I went out to dinner to Del Arte that evening.
