Having had a moderately late night after first
qualifying on Wednesday we were in no great rush to be up and about on Thursday
morning. I still woke up quite early - it's a work 'legacy', I tend to
wake up before 6 am every day - but we didn't assemble outside the hotel until
around 10 am for our morning trip up to the Bar Havane. I wasn't in great
shape, I had a migraine and, more worryingly, some cold-like symptoms, starting
with the obligatory sore throat.
Being in no hurry today was good though, it meant
that I could take one of my 'magic' migraine tablets and retire to my room in
the hotel for a couple of hours. I didn't actually attempt to sleep it off
as that usually makes it worse, so I spent quite a while on Ten Tenths.
Instead of bringing my antique laptop to Le Mans with me this year, I'd been
lucky enough to have been given a Sony tablet by Cathy, a friend of the family,
and with the advantage of the hotel's free 'wiffi', I was able to post regularly
on Tenths during my time at Le Mans.
Feeling considerably better after the extra rest,
I joined James and Tony on the journey to the circuit at around 1.30 pm.
The weather was reasonable at this time and we spent a while in the shops at the
back of the grandstands where I bought my wife an Alonso t-shirt! It could
be worse - she could have been a Vettel fan! After our stroll, we decided
to head for our grandstand where we indulged in the obligatory jambon and
emmental baguettes. We watched the legends race from there, although I
confess that the main interest in that for us was just how slowly the slowest of
the cars could complete it's fastest lap! There was also pre-qualifying
preparation going on in the pits, which was interesting to watch.
With the Legends session over, it was time to think about the
second qualifying session which started at 6pm.
