Le Mans 2013 - Ayse's Story

Sunday Morning at Mulsanne - Is It Time for Breakfast?

So it was back to the car for the journey to Mulsanne corner, with the heater on full blast.....  We arrived there at 6.20 and, for the first time that I can ever remember, we were specifically asked to show our Arnage/Mulsanne parking ticket.  Even though the car park had masses of spaces, we got the distinct impression that the car park marshal wasn't about to let us in without one (or until we provided adequate 'consideration', perhaps.....).

We then had that always rather debilitating walk from the car park right over to Mulsanne corner itself and I first started taking my next set of rather lame photographs at 6.45.

I find this a particularly tiring time at Le Mans.  Having gone all night without sleep, having also walked a fair distance with the wonder of the night now well and truly gone, I was pretty tired and my legs were crying enough of just standing still.  So after half an hour or so we headed off to the stall there for a sit down and had croissants and coffee to lift our sprits - it always works!

It was about half an hour later that Pascal arrived with Vincent and Amandine, whereupon he said, 'I think it's time for breakfast!'  He was right of course - at this time of the morning, it's always time for breakfast at Le Mans - so we trooped off to the staff and hit the coffee and croissants for a second time!  I don't think Pascal realised that our reluctance to have a second croissant had something to do with the fact that we'd already sampled only half an hour before!

We hung around at Mulsanne corner until 8.30 at which point even James was complaining of aches and pains, so we trudged back to the car again and headed back to the hotel for a reviving wash and brush up.
