Suitably refreshed after our pizza and coffee
break we said farewell to Pascal, fully expecting to see him again out at
Mulsanne for breakfast. As Saturday turned into Sunday, we decided to make
our way back to the grandstand. At this time of night the stand was only
sparsely populated and we were able to take up seats near the top so that I
could at least try and get a shot or two above the debris fencing.
This is actually a pretty impossible task on this
side of the straight, however the vantage point does afford a good view across
into the garages, all brightly lit in the now full darkness.
Regular readers will know that I don't spend too
much time in my stories detailing the race itself - you can easily find a race
report if you want to know exactly what was happening, however the #2 Audi had
established the best part of a lap lead by this time which the chasing Toyotas
simply couldn't break into - they clearly needed rain - not a succession of
safety cars.
It was pleasant sitting up there in the stand,
although not overly warm and there was a danger of settling down and getting too
comfortable, so at about 1.40 am we decided to make our move (having seen the
traffic ease) out to Arnage and Indianapolis.
