We were soon back at the circuit after our short
'wake up' break and none of us really wanted to do any more walking around so we
headed straight back to our seats in the grandstand, where we stayed from around
10.45 until the end of the race.
You won't find any shots of the cars crossing the
line here this year as I decided to concentrate on video for those closing
moments. I'll see if I can put some of the video up on YouTube with links
here in due course.
The last hour or so was actually quite exciting
with Lapierre throwing his Toyota off in the Porsche Curves and more rain making
life very difficult for tired cars and drivers, but Kristensen held firm and
took yet another win for Audi, his ninth, a third for McNish and a first win for
the very impressive Loic Duval.
After the finish of the race we were quickly out
of our seats and made the dash back to the car while the podium celebrations
were going on, so much so that we were back at the hotel at 15.38 - a new record
time for Team DoT's Le Mans circuit evacuation!
Having luxuriated in what I always describe as the
'best shower of the year' and some excellent relaxation time, the three of us
headed out for an evening meal at the Hippo Grill, which I'm sure was very good
indeed - although I can remember nothing at all about it! We were back at
the hotel for 9.30 for some all-important sleep. I think I was in the Land
of Nod about five seconds after my head hit the pillow......
