Le Mans 2000 Ayse's Story

Page 10 - Saturday 17th June - Dunlop, The Esses and Dinner

Since the advent of debris fencing back in the mid-90's, many of the places that afforded an uninterrupted view of the cars for amateur snappers like me had long disappeared and it had become a case of just throwing the lens wide open and hoping to lose as much of the fencing as possible.  The Dunlop Chicane was one of those places.  Took quite a lot of shots and although they were significantly affected by the fencing, I still think they're worth putting up with the story (which would otherwise be pretty dull!).

As I still had some time in hand before the planned meeting at 7.30 I walked down the inside of the Esses, something I hadn't done very often before.

After my stint down on both sides of the Esses, I was conscious of the time and the need to meet up with the others for the trip back to Le Grand LucĂ© for dinner.  I made my way back over the Dunlop Bridge for the rendezvous under the big wheel.  I was the first there but Martyn, Peter, Robert and Ian soon arrived, but there was no sign of Chris or the others.  We hung around there for another half an hour but they still didn't arrive.  Tired of waiting for them we assumed that they hadn't bothered with meeting up and had headed back to the hotel.  We arrived back at 8.40 to find the others already there.  This had already become quite a theme for the trip...  We were just in time for a quick wash and change and then to sit down for dinner and watch the football on a TV kindly provided by our hosts!   It was an excellent meal of crevettes followed by chicken for me plus a 1-0 win against Germany!
