I took my first shot from Tertre Rouge just before
6.30, two and a half hours into this free practice session. Tertre Rouge is now
probably the best spot on the entire circuit for the amateur photographer, not
fortunate enough to have a media bib to get them inside the now ever present
debris fencing.
The weather had improved dramatically so
that the circuit, initially still damp when the session started, was soon fully
dry and as the session moved into its last hour, the sun was shining and it was
still very warm.
Having watched from Tertre Rouge for about an hour, we finally
walked down from the spectator banking and up onto the raised area looking back
up to the Dunlop Bridge. I still struggle to look at that scene as it has now
become without wanting to have the old rundown to the Esses back.
The session finished at eight o'clock and we
saw it out at this spot. We hadn't eaten for ages and in true Tourist style I'd
spotted a handily placed eatery between Tertre Rouge and the Esses banking, so
we walked back there for dinner. The verdict? Nice chips, but the merguez I
ordered turned out to be a saucisse (just as happened to me at Arnage on the
Sunday last year), but I was so hungry I couldn't be bothered to go back and
complain.
