Le Mans 2018 - Ayse's Story

Page 12 - Into T17 Again - There's a Race on the Way.....

Saturday 16th June

Toby, James and I walked back from the meeting to the grandstands where we got Toby signed in as a guest and then headed into the grandstand.  We were sitting in T17 again, which had been my home during the race each year since 2019, aside from last year of course when we sat in Raccordement.  The cars were already being pushed through and lined up in echelon formation along the main straight with a throng of drivers, team personnel and monied pretty people enjoying the view in the sunshine.  We got there around 1 pm, so had two hours to soak up the atmosphere and grab a bite to eat.

James F and Ramona were back with us, although Allon, who tends not to buy a grandstand seat had got lucky in that our French friend Dominique had let him have his spare seat in T34.  Like much of the rest of the week had been, it was warm and sunny and t-shirts and shorts remained the order of the day.

I confined most of my photography to video in the run-up to the start with the arrival of the flag ready for Rafa Nadal to wield and I did manage to get some excellent footage of the arrival in our stand of Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un.  The lack of security was a surprise as was their reception.....

The arrival of Le Patrouille de France was a highlight as always, heralding as it did the beginning of the pace lap...
